FESTIVAL 2011
Dear Festival Guests and Beloved Short Film Friends and Fans,
For the fifth time we are pleased to present the European Short Film Festival Cologne – UNLIMITED with several short film programs for adults and kids. Brand new highlights will be shown in the European and Regional Competition, dedicated to films exclusively from the North Rhine-Westphalia (NRW) region and we have put together great programs for special interests..
A Midnight Special – Rollercoaster to be screened on November11th, 2011 - the famous date of the commencement of the Cologne Karneval season - is a new addition. A film medley dedicated to the weird, the wonderful and sometimes disturbing and to those films that defy categorization entirely.
In collaboration with Indac, AWN and Walt Disney Pictures Germany, it is an honour for us to offer a Cologne screening of Giant’s first Steps, a highly-respected collection of first short films by some of the world’s most famous “Giants” working in animation today. Special festival guests are also awaited. The French director, Nicolas Engel, will enchant us with a screening of his charming musical shorts, while current productions from film students studying at Beit Berl College in Israel will offer us proof as to why this institution has such an excellent reputation in the field of film. We welcome again the Super 8 Festival Regard Indépendant from Nice, France along with Cologne directors and prize winners presented in their program. And we are very pleased to welcome kurzundschön who will present their 2011 festival winners to publicaudience.
Last but not least, children and youth - our up-and-coming young audience members and potential future filmmakers and fans - are in our focus. Our long-standing collaboration with Cinepänz will also bear new fruits at this year’s festival. Beside the children’s programs we offer young people the opportunity to closely experience the art of filmmaking during workshops. Under the direction of international and Cologne film professionals the world of film will be communicated to children in a way that arouses curiousity and advocates a playful and comprehensible approach to film and filmmaking.
We are looking forward to inspiring festival days, which would not have been possible without the generous support from our sponsors and festival partners. For this, we thank you from the bottom of our hearts.
I would like to particularly thank Feyyaz for his creative support and our new design.
Furthermore, I would like to thank my wonderful team, in particular the festival selection committee: Franziska Bolz, Chris Dörken, Johannes Duncker, Sonja Hofmann, Jennifer Jones, Nicole Rebmann, Michael Schlößer und Berenice Wahl.
